Safe & Sacred Space with Leslye
You are invited to share Safe & Sacred Space with me on Sunday, April 13th, 2:00-4:00 pm CT.
Last month, I mentioned how I began holding virtual safe and sacred spaces after the 2024 election. Continuing to follow the inspiration, my desire is to hold space for those who are experiencing angst, disbelief, and frustration as we witness and experience the chaos of our society. I resist describing this period as “unprecedented” for reasons that are unclear to me. Certainly as an adult, I have no memory of such intentional and cruel chaos.
I find myself thinking of my African ancestors who were kidnapped, survived the Middle Passage only to set foot on unfamiliar ground and find themselves enslaved as chattel with no recourse as their involuntary labor built what would become a new nation. Also, I am mindful of the peoples of the First Nations who encountered settlers and colonizers who saw Turtle Island as a land of resources to nurture their greed and elevate their sense of self-worth. Both of these peoples were acquainted with intentional and cruel chaos. Tragically, there were far too few settlers and colonizers with the integrity and courage to speak against the grave injustices that were to become systemic.
Five-hundred years later, we, the descendants of these people are here. Many of us are being reminded of the intergenerational trauma we embody. I believe our being present to each other in a safe and sacred space is a balm for us, individually and collectively. Together, we are reminded that we are not alone. Together, we sustain each other. Together, we experience an ineffable presence and strength.
I do hope you can join me on Sunday. Reply if you want me to send you the link.
