Grief and Compassion
We are at the end of another heavy week. Grief is upon so many of us as we mourn the loss of loved ones, those we admired from afar, and those who simply shared in our humanity. In an instant, a last breath is exhaled and our lives are changed forever. Expressing gratitude for the person, their life, and knowing them is a way to plant seeds that will be nurtured by grief and watered by tears. Both the grief and the tears are expressions of compassion and love.
The grief we experience may be healthy in that it shows we remain in touch with our emotions as the cruelty of the current administration threatens not only our democracy but our humanity, and our very soul. We must continue to resist becoming numb, indifferent or desensitized to the pain and suffering we are experiencing and witnessing. In these difficult days, our humanity compels us to be compassion for each other.
